The winners of the inaugural World Sailing Awards were announced at an exceptional awards ceremony in the presence of over 300 guests in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on Tuesday night.
The stories behind some of the nominees were inspiring, uplifting and encouraging to the future generation of sailors.
After a public, Member National Authorities and on-the-night vote Marit Bouwmeester (NED) and Peter Burling (NZL) won the Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award. The evening, held during the 2017 Annual Conference, also saw the President’s Development Award and Beppe Croce trophy presented.
The topic of conversation at the Annual Conference has been centred around the overarching theme of #UnitingOurSport. There was a lot of discussion and debate in the two Annual Conference Forums, Growing Women’s Participation in the sport, and the release of World Sailing’s Sustainability Agenda 2030.
The Conference continues through to Sunday 12 November with the General Assembly ending the week.
