America’s Cup, un nuovo albero per Alinghi 5

[singlepic id=4405 w=300 h=204 float=left]America’s Cup – Ras al Khaimah – Grandi novità per Alinghi. Il defender ha sfruttato le ottime condizioni meteo odierne per dotare, e provare, il suo maxi catamarano di un nuovo albero, molto più alto rispetto al precedente.

Tra i primi a commentare il frutto del lavoro svolto dal design e dallo shore team, che ha sostituito l’antenna ieri pomeriggio all’interno della base situata sull’isola di Al Hamra, è stato Murray Jones: “E’ andato tutto davvero bene. La barca si è comportata benissimo e tutto ha funzionato al meglio. Siamo usciti presto, quando la brezza era ancora sui 5 nodi. Il vento è andato pian piano aumentando, raggiungendo i 14 nodi: condizioni che ci hanno permesso di testare al meglio l’albero. Ora attendiamo di raccogliere i dati relativi alla nuova antenna per definire l’esatta superficie delle vele a seconda delle condizioni meteo”.

Questa importante modifica segna un altro passo nel programma di sviluppo fissato da Alinghi: “Mark Allanson, Kirst Feddersen e il loro team hanno fatto un grande lavoro: non ci saremmo potuti aspettare di meglio. Anche l’intervo di Andreas Winistoerfer è stato inappagabile. Le cose migliorano ad ogni singola modifica ed è ciò che speravamo accadesse. Ma dobbiamo restare concentrati: non siamo ancora alla fine del nostro programma di sviluppo”.

AMERICA’S CUP, ALINGHI 5 STEPPED NEW MAST
[Source Alinghi] The team stepped the new Alinghi mast yesterday at the base on America’s Cup Island of Al Hamra and were eager to try it for size during the training session today.

As Murray Jones hopped off the boat at the end of the day, we got his reaction as design team responsible for the mast and rig programme: “It went really well. The boat felt good and everything worked well on the mast. We went out quite early so the breeze was around five knots and then built to around 14 knots, so it was a good test for the mast. The boat seems to be performing well and after sailing for a time with both masts we’ll be able to assess the sail area that we should have in different conditions”.

Alinghi 5 is an ongoing development programme and all elements will continue to be refined: “Mark Allanson, Kirst Feddersen and the team of boat builders have done a fantastic job; we couldn’t have wanted anything more. The involvement of Andreas Winistoerfer has also been invaluable; things are being refined with each development step and it is everything we could hope for at this stage. It’s not the end of the development programme…”.
