La vela e l’America’s Cup secondo Ted Turner

America’s Cup – New York – Fondatore della CNN, presidente della Turner Broadcasting System, quindi vicepresidente della Time Warner prima e vicepresidente dall’AOL Time Warner, società nata dalla fusione tra la Time Warner e America On Line, poi. Ma prima di tutto questo, e dell’acquisto di ottomila chilometri quadrati di terreni, sui quali si aggira una popolazione di oltre quarantamila bufali, Ted Turner, nel 1977, ha difeso la Coppa America alla ruota del 12 metri S.I. Courageous e vinto con Tenacious l’edizione del Fastent più dura di sempre, quella del 1979.
Entrato nell’America’s Cup Hall of Fame nel 1993, Turner è stato intervistato alcuni giorni fa da David Letterman che non si è fatto sfuggire l’occasione per parlare di vela e Coppa America.

TED TURNER TALKS ABOUT SAILING AND AMERICA’S CUP
America’s Cup – New York – If you search Ted Turner on Wikipedia you will learn that he entered sailing competitions when he was 11, at the Savannah Yacht Club, and competed in Olympic trials in 1964. In 1977, he successfully defended the America’s Cup for the United States as skipper of the yacht Courageous. In the 1979 Fastnet race, in a storm that killed participants, he skippered Tenacious to a corrected-time victory. He was on the cover of Sports Illustrated on 4 July 1977 after winng the qualifying to lead the 1977 America’s Cup defense and he was inducted into the America’s Cup Hall of Fame in 1993.
Turner was on David Letterman Show on November 10 and talked about America’s Cup.
