Louis Vuitton Pacific Series, Vincenzo Onorato: “E’ con profondo rammarico…”

“Cari amici e sostenitori,
E’ con profondo rammarico che desidero comunicarvi che ho ritirato l’iscrizione del nostro team alla prossima Louis Vuitton Pacific Series.
Una decisione meditata a lungo e provocata non certo dalla mia volontà , ma bensì dalla difficile congiuntura economica internazionale nella quale ci troviamo.
Una situazione che ci ha reso impossibile trovare uno o più sponsor che coprissero, anche solo parzialmente, il costo di una trasferta organizzata per ottenere dei buoni risultati sportivi. E, andare a correre ad Auckland “in tono minore”, con il solo obiettivo di partecipare, avrebbe mortificato le nostre aspirazioni per un evento che merita il massimo sforzo sportivo e organizzativo.
Il mio dispiacere nel dover rinunciare alla LVPS risiede anche nel fatto che Louis Vuitton è ormai il solo ed unico depositario della tradizione e della dignità dell’America’s Cup. Auguro per questo all’evento e ai suoi partecipanti buon vento e spero che i suoi promotori possano e vogliano continuare ad impegnarsi nel tempo nel nostro sport con la passione che lì ha sempre mossi e contraddistinti.
Per quanto riguarda Mascalzone Latino, nell’attesa che l’America’s Cup trovi una strada chiara e ragionevolmente perseguibile, confermo la nostra presenza per il 2009 nella Classe Farr 40.

Louis Vuitton Pacific Series – Milano – Here a notice just appeared on Mascalzone Latino’s website, with whom Vincenzo Onorato announced the decision of his team not to participate in the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series.
“Dear friends and supporters,
It is with deep regret that I inform you to have withdrawn the entry of our team from the next Louis Vuitton Pacific Series.
This decision is the result of a lengthy deliberation, and it doesn’t reflect my wish. It is due to the difficult international economic situation which is making nearly impossible to find sponsors that would cover, even partially, the operational costs for a participation aiming a good performance.
Further, making a low level’s participation to the Auckland regatta would mortify our aspirations for an event which deserves the maximum standard in terms of sport and organization.
My great sorrow in giving up is mostly for Louis Vuitton which is , in my opinion , the only depositary of the Cup’s tradition and dignity.
For this reason, I wish “good wind†to this event and to all participants and I hope its promoters will keep on with their dedication into our sport with the same passion they always had.
On our part, while waiting for the America’s Cup to find a reasonable and viable way to be pursued, Mascalzone Latino confirms its participation into 2009 Farr 40 Class regatta.
