Scarlino – 52 Super Series 2016 went underway today in Scarlino, where the TP52 fleet has completed the first two races valid for the Scarlino Cup. After the nice breeze that has blown yesterday during the practice race, the crews had to sail with a light and shifty south-westerly wind.

Bronenosec Gazprom (Liubomirov-Ivaldi, 9-6), bearer hull of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, has scored a ninth and a sixth, results that have placed Vladimir Liubomirov’s TP52 at the center of the fleet, close to Turkish entry Provezza (Beadsworth-Rey, 4-9) and tied with Xio Hurakan (Serafini-Chieffi, 8-7) and Azzurra (Parada-Vascotto, 7-8), the reigning TP52 World Champion.
After today races the leader of the ranking is Quantum Racing (Baird-Hutchinson, 1-3), trailed by four boat with the same points – Sled (Okura-MacDonald, 6-1), Platoon (Muller Spreer-Wieser, 5-2), Alegre (Soriano-Harrap, 5-2), Ran Racing (Zennstrom-Larson, 2-5) – yet another demonstration of how competitive the TP52 fleet is.

Feelings are good: the fleet is very skilled and the level is incredibly high: it’s a pleasure to sail in an event like this – Bronenosec Sailing Team’s navigator Francesco Mongelli said – Personally I think that, for many reasons, we didn’t get the results we could achieve. We will go through this to find a way to come out a little from the middle of the fleet“.

Racing in Scarlino will resume tomorrow, with weather conditions similar to those of today; Race Committee hopes in other two races before the coastal race set for Friday. The event will end on Sunday.

In Scarlino, Bronenosec Gazprom is raced by Vladimir Liubomirov (owner-driver), Michele Ivaldi (tactician-skipper), Adrian Stead (tactician), Francesco Mongelli (navigator), Victor Serezhkin (backstay), Paul Westlake (mainsail trimmer), Claudio Celon (trimmer), Zack Hurst (trimmer), Lele Marino (grinder), Pietro Mantovani (grinder), Andy Fethers (pit), Alex Kulakov (floater), Michael Cannoni (mid-bow), Alberto Barovier (bowman-team manager). The team’s activities is coordinated by the coaches Francesco de Angelis and Flavio Favini.
