America’s Cup – Genova – Alinghi 5 ha lasciato gli ormeggi della sua base temporanea di Genova, in Italia, oggi alle 12.30 per le prime ore di navigazione in acqua salata.
Le condizioni meteo erano ideali: una brezza leggera da sudovest e mare calmo. “Oggi è stato il giorno del battesimo nell’ acqua di mare per Alinghi 5 , il vento era molto leggero e tutto è andato per il meglio. Siamo felici di essere in Italia per questo periodo di allenamento, questo è un posto dove chiunque vorrebbe vivere. Abbiamo ricevuto un’accoglienza eccezionale qui a Genova e un grande supporto dal Cantiere Amico e dallo Yacht Club Italiano. Tutto bene dunque. Speriamo soltanto che lunedì ci sia un po’ più di vento” ha dichiarato Brad Butterworth al termine della sessione di allenamento odierna.
Il Defender dell’America’s Cup ha trasportato il suo maxi catamarano, che rappresenta il punto di partenza dello sviluppo della nova barca verso l’America’s Cup del febbraio 2010, con un elicottero dalla sua base sul lago di Ginevra fino al porto di Genova il 7 agosto scorso. L’allenamento continuerà nella città ligure fino alla metà di settembre, quando la barca sarà trasferita a Ras al-Khaimah, negli Emirati Arabi, sede designata della 33ma America’s Cup.
AMERICA’S CUP, ALINGHI 5 TASTES SALT WATER
[Alinghi Press Release] Alinghi 5 docked out of its temporary base in Genoa, Italy, this afternoon for its first hours of saltwater sailing. Conditions for the first outing were ideal: a light southwesterly breeze and flat seas. “Today was the first day in saltwater for Alinghi 5 and even though conditions were light; everything was good. We are happy to be in Italy for this period of our training programme; it’s a place where everyone would like to live! We have received a great welcome from Genoa and huge support from the Amico yard and the Yacht Club Italiano and we look forward to some more sailing next Monday with a little more breeze,” said team skipper Brad Butterworth.
The 33rd America’s Cup Defender transported its giant catamaran, the first step in the development process towards the America’s Cup Match in February 2010, by helicopter from its base on Lake Geneva to the north Mediterranean port on 7 August. Training will continue in Genoa before the boat is transported to the 33rd America’s Cup Venue in Ras al-Khaimah, UAE.
