America’s Cup, secondo giorno in mare per Alinghi 5

America’s Cup – Valencia – Alinghi 5 ha affrontato la seconda giornata di vela “valenciana”. Lasciato l’ormeggio alle 11.00, l’equipaggio è rientrato dopo 5 ore, concludendo l’allenamento con leggero anticipo rispetto a ieri.

“Tutto è andato bene anche in considerazione dell’instabilità del vento – ha commentato Pierre Yves Jorand, analista dei dati del team – abbiamo navigato con un vento compreso tra i 15 e i 20 nodi testando un nuovo gennaker. Farsi un’idea delle reali potenzialità della nuova vela non è stato facile a causa della differenza di intensità tra la testa d’albero e il pelo dell’acqua.”

AMERICA’S CUP, SECOND DAY IN THE WATER FOR ALINGHI 5
[Source Alinghi] Alinghi 5 left Valencia´s Darsena for the second time today. Slipping the dock at 11am, the crew returned to the harbour a little earlier  than yesterday, at around 1600 hrs.

Commented Pierre Yves Jorand (SUI) , part of the Alinghi 5 trim and performance analysis team: ¨All went well considering the shifty and gusty conditions. We began by sailing in a nice westerly breeze around 15 to 20 knots and were able to evaluate a new gennaker, but it was difficult to gauge precisely because the gradient of the wind differed so much from the top of the mast to the water line. We decided to finish sailing as the breeze built quickly to over 30 knots and in fact, that stayed for the rest of the afternoon, so we were glad we made the decision to call it a day¨.
