Trofeo Principessa Sofia, subito bene la Linares e il binomio Conti-Micol

[singlepic id=5475 w=300 h=204 float=left]Trofeo Principessa Sofia – Palma di Maiorca – Il vento debole e instabile ha caratterizzato il primo giorno di regate valide per il Trofeo Principessa Sofia, terza tappa dell’ISAF Sailing World Cup. Condizioni meteo molto particolari, che hanno rimescolando le carte in tavola e hanno impedito agli equipaggi favoriti di allungare i passo.  Favoriti ed outsider insieme, quindi, come nella classe 470 maschile che ha aperto le ostilità con un testa a testa tra il binomio dello statunitense Stuart Manay e quello dell’australiano Matthew Belcher. Parità anche nel 470 femminile, dove dopo due prove Giulia Conti e Giovanna Micol (7-1) sono appaiate all’equipaggio di casa Gallego Duran-Rita Duran.

Semplicemente perfetta la giovanissima Laura Linares (3-1), che nell’RS:X Femminile ha messo in fila la concorrenza, inclusa la rientrante Alessandra Sensini (9-4). Bene anche l’olimpionico Fabina Heidegger (6-2), secondo dietro all’imprendibile Shahar Zubari.

Così così l’inizio dei fratelli Sibello, tredicesimi (10-6) nel 49er a tredici punti dai francesi Dyen-Christidis: un dato in netta antitesi con la storia dei due portacolori delle Fiamme Gialle, da sempre a loro agio nelle arie leggere. Nel Laser buon avvio croato, con Stonci Stipanovic un punto avanti al russo Maxim Semerkhanov e allo spagnolo Javier Hernandez.

Nella Star quinto posto per Diego Negri e Ferdinando Colaninno (10-3) staccati di nove punti dai leader Flavio Marazzi ed Enrico de Maria, vecchie conoscenze della classe a livello internazionale.

Nessuna regata per i Finn, che inizieranno domani con l’inserimento di Michele Paoletti, reduce dal successo a Lerici a bordo del Melges 32 Fantasticaaa.

PRINCESS SOFIA TROPHY, WIND AND TOP LEVEL SAILORS MARKS THE START
[Princess SofiaPress Release] Low and instable wind on the first day of racing of the 41 Trofeo S.A.R. Princesa Sofia Mapfre, third event of the ISAF Sailing World Cup. The top level of the sailors was clear today with very tight results in all races.

The overall results show a top 5 to be defined in most classes with some surprises. A clear example is found in the 470 men, with 93 boats divided in two groups. Stuart Mcnay’s from the US, leader of the class tied with Australian sailor Matthew Belcher, has battled with the day’s tough conditions. According to Mcnay, “the good wind and the fast decision making of the Race Committee when changing the racing area have been key factors to their victory”.

His crew Graham Biehl pointed out that “this is a test event for them” because their goal is to improve their technique on the water. Argentinean team Lucas Calabrese and Juan de la Fuente have finished third in the class and second in their group. “Right now being third is not too important” pointed out Calabrese explaining that there are still many days of racing ahead. Notwithstanding, both are satisfied with the good results after adapting to today’s wind conditions that were favourable to them. Calabrese, has also praised the Race Committee for the decisions made on the water.

In 470 women, the day’s winners have been Italian team Giulia Conti and Giovanna Micol. After “being asleep in the first start”, the team has been able to climb up to seventh place and regain enough confidence to end up winning the second.
