Mahon – The countdown is getting closer to zero in Menorca, where the 52 World Championship, fourth event of the 52 Super Series is about to start.

After the previous events of the series, hosted in Scarlino, Porto Cervo and Puerto Portals, the fleet will reach for the first time the moorings in Mahon’s port where, starting form September 14th, races will be open to determine which of the twelve crews that will take part to this World Championship will get on top of the World. The event, that is also valid as fourth lag of the circuit reserved to the TP52, will anticipate by a month the final stage, planned in Cascais between October 11th and 15th.

The pressure is high for Azzurra (Parada-Vascotto), current World Championship titleholder, but also for Quantum Racing (DeVos-Hutchinson) that, after the successes of Scarlino, Porto Cervo and Puerto Portals is the current leader of this 52 Super Series season. Attention is focused also on Niklas Zennström’s 2013 world title winning Rán Racing, which demonstrated to be one of the fastest boats on the water this season. In the game will enter also Paul Cayard as skipper of Phoenix.

Expectations are great also for the Russian team Bronenosec Gazprom. The bearer hull of the Saint Petersburg Yacht Club showed constant improvements all during this season, eventually finding its relaunch in Puerto Portals, where Valdimir Liubomirov’s crew managed to finish in second position the third event of the 52 Super Series at the end of a great fight with Guillermo Parada’s Azzurra.

We’re coming to Mahon after a beginning of season that was hard – declared Michele Ivaldi, skipper and tactician of Bronenosec Gazprom – but eventually we managed to reach good results, in the last event of the series in Puerto Portals. The team progressively started to show its potentialities, demonstrating that we can compete at a very high level”. Talking about the more technical aspects of Bronenosec Gazprom, he added: “We’ve been working a lot in the development of the boat and of the sails and we’re glad to see that the boat is reacting very well to these changes. After Puerto Portals, our crew is very motivated and we’re sure that, becoming more confident with our means, we can reach great results. This is, after all, what we’ve been striving for in the last two seasons”.

In Mahon, Bronenosec Gazprom will be sailed by Vladimir Liubomirov (owner-driver), Michele Ivaldi (skipper-tactician), Adrian Stead (strategist), Francesco Mongelli (navigator), Victor Serezhkin (backstay), Paul Westlake (mainsail trimmer), Claudio Celon (trimmer), Zack Hurst (trimmer), Emanuele Marino (grinder), Pietro Mantovani (grinder), Andy Fethers (pitman), Alex Kulakov (floater), Michele Cannoni (mid-bow) and Alberto Barovier (team manager-bowman). The team activity will be coordinated by the coach Francesco de Angelis while the shore team will be leaded by Francesco Binetti Pozzi.
