A Nizza si stanno mettendo a punto le attrezzature, effettuando i test sulle barche per renderle uniformi e pronte per le regate ed alcuni team hanno già trascorso del tempo su barche ACC (America’s Cup Class) la scorsa settimana, cercando di eliminare tutti i piccoli problemi prima dell’inizio delle regate, fissate per il 7 novembre.
Le quattro imbarcazioni ACC che saranno utilizzate per le regate di Nizza sono state preparate per l’evento di novembre a Valencia, sede dell’ultima America’s Cup, dove diversi team mantengono ancora la base delle loro operazioni.
Martedì pomeriggio, due delle barche, GBR-75 (fornita da TeamOrigin) e FRA-93 (fornita da All4One – nuovo nome di K-Challenge), sono arrivate trainate dopo un viaggio di oltre 400 miglia nautiche lungo la costa del Mediterraneo fino a Nizza.
“È fantastico vedere le prime due barche qui a Nizza” ha detto Laurent Esquier, CEO della World Sailing Teams Association (WSTA), che, in collaborazione con Louis Vuitton e con il Club Nautique de Nice, sta organizzando la regata.
Nic Bice, capitano della barca, ha dichiarato: “È stato certamente un sollievo arrivare a Nizza illesi. La nostra finestra meteorologica era estremamente piccola, ma grazie al duro lavoro dei ragazzi e delle ragazze coinvolti in questo trasferimento, siamo stati in grado di partire al momento giusto e di arrivare con le barche al 100% e pronti a lavorare”.
Le altre due barche, ITA-90 e ITA-99, fornite dal team Mascalzone Latino (che non sarà in gara a Nizza) arriveranno via nave alla fine del mese.
“Abbiamo un team che sta già lavorando molto duramente a Nizza, preparando il villaggio e la logistica per la regata, e ogni cosa sta seguendo la sua programmazione – dice Esquier – Non vediamo l’ora di accogliere gli 8 team all’inizio di novembre per un po’ di allenamento prima della competizione”.

BMW Oracle Racing, Emirates Team New Zealand e All4One hanno preso parte all’ultima America’s Cup mentre Team Origin ha partecipato alle Louis Vuitton Pacific Series all’inizio di quest’anno. Gli altri quattro team sono invece nuovi ad un evento con barche del tipo ACC, ma esperti velisti di Coppa America sono presenti in tutte le loro liste di equipaggio. La settimana scorsa, Synergy Russian Sailing Team e Azzurra hanno familiarizzato con queste barche usando gli scafi di Victory Challenge, mentre All4One si è allenato con FRA-93.
Il Louis Vuitton Trophy – Nizza è il primo evento di un circuito di regate ispirate alle Louis Vuitton Pacific Series che si sono disputate all’inizio di quest’anno ad Auckland. Il team ospitante a Nizza è All4One.
Altre date e località per gli eventi del 2010 saranno annunciati a Nizza il 6 novembre in occasione della conferenza stampa di apertura del Louis Vuitton Trophy.
PREPARATIONS GATHER FOR LOUIS VUITTON TROPHY – NICE
[Louis Vuitton Trophy Press Release] With two weeks to go until the eight teams are scheduled to assemble for practice sailing in Nice, preparations for the first Louis Vuitton Trophy regatta are gathering pace.
The facilities in Nice are being readied, the race boats are being tested, equalised and prepared for racing, and some of the teams spent some time on ACC yachts last week, working out the kinks ahead of the first race day, November 7.
In Valencia, the site of the last America’s Cup where several teams still maintain a base of operations, the four ACC boats that will be used for the racing in Nice have been set-up for the November regatta.
On Tuesday afternoon, two of the boats, GBR-75 (provided by Team Origin) and FRA-93 (provided by All4One – previously known as K-Challenge) arrived in Nice under tow, following a 400-plus nautical mile journey up the Mediterranean coast.
“It’s great to see the first two boats here in Nice,” said Laurent Esquier, the CEO of the World Sailing Teams Association (WSTA), who, in partnership with Louis Vuitton and the Club Nautique de Nice, is organising the regatta.
Nic Bice, head boat captain, said: “It was certainly a relief to arrive in Nice unscathed. Our weather window was extremely small but due to the hard work of all the guys and girls involved we were able to leave when the time was right and arrive with the boats 100% and ready to go”.
The other two boats, ITA-90 and ITA-99, supplied by the Mascalzone Latino team (who won’t be competing in Nice) will be shipped to the venue later this month.
“We have a very hard-working team already on site in Nice, preparing the race village and the logistics for the regatta, and everything is running to schedule,” Esquier confirmed. “We look forward to welcoming the eight teams here at the beginning of November for some practice ahead of the racing.”
The confirmed line-up of eight world-class sailing teams for the Louis Vuitton Trophy – Nice, which runs from the 7th to 22nd November, includes:

BMW Oracle Racing, Emirates Team New Zealand and All4One (as K-Challenge) each competed in the last America’s Cup and Team Origin competed in the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series earlier this year. While the other four teams are new to ACC racing, experienced Cup sailors are sprinkled throughout their crew rosters. This past week in Valencia, the Synergy Russian Sailing Team and Azzurra had an ACC familiarisation session using boats belonging to Victory Challenge, while All4One sea-trialled with FRA-93.
The Louis Vuitton Trophy – Nice is the first event inspired by the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series in Auckland, New Zealand, earlier this year. The host team of the Nice event is All4One.
