Melges 24 European Sailing Series, Gill Race Team is the Melges 24 Dutch Champion

Medemblik – Third day of the Delta Lloyd Dutch Open Championship 2015 was the one to decide the Dutch Champions in eleven classes and among them Melges 24 class with 18 teams from seven countries. Miles Quinton’s Gill Race Team from Great Britain did not leave much chance to the others – gaining two bullets today and five out of eight in overall they were crowned 2015 Melges 24 Dutch Champions in the International Sailing Center Medemblik on the regatta considered to be the fifth event of the 2015 Melges 24 European Sailing Series.
By the end of the second day of the Dutch Open Championship and with six races completed Gill Race Team GBR694 was three points behind of local top Melges 24 team – 2013 Melges 24 Corinthian European Champion – Ronald Veraar’s Kesbeke/Sika/Gill NED827 who has been leading the regatta since the beginning. On the final day Gill Race Team was strong and confident enough to win both two races to catch Kesbeke/Sika/Gill who got fifth and fourth place today. Miles Quinton’s Gill Race Team GBR694 included Nigel Young, Rob Gullan, William Goldsmith, Colm Dunne and Richard Marshall and collected 16 points altogether. Ronald Veraar’s team including Eelko Block, Pim Mommersteeg and Joost Brouwer ended four points behind of the winner and with a ten points’ margin ahead of Swiss Michael Good’s Aile SUI382 who started the regatta from the fifth position jumping to third by the end of the second day.
David Rowen’s Imagine GBR557 from Great Britain was eighth and second today and with 33 points in overall gained fourth place followed by the two Hungarian teams – Kalman Rozsnyay’s FGF Sailing Team HUN728 with Robert Bakozsy in helm (2-8 today, 33 pts overall) and then Akos Csolto’s Seven Five Nine HUN759 (3-13 today, 35 pts overall). Current European Sailing Series leader in Pro-Am/Corinthian, Ukrainian Oleg Dyvinets’ Marusia UKR819 ended the regatta as seventh.
