Louis Vuitton Trophy, annunciati due nuovi team

[singlepic id=4268 w=300 h=204 float=left]Louis Vuitton Trophy – Parigi – Louis Vuitton e la World Sailing Teams Association (WSTA) hanno il piacere di annunciare che due nuovi team hanno confermato la loro partecipazione al Louis Vuitton Trophy che si disputerà il prossimo mese a Nizza (dal 7 al 22 novembre). Sono così 8 i teams confermati, che è il numero ottimale per avere un evento di alto livello a novembre, compatibilmente con le condizioni meteo attese nel sud della Francia in autunno.
“È un grande piacere accogliere Team Origin, il team inglese di Sir Keith Mills, che diventa azionista privilegiato della WSTA ed ha intenzione di prendere parte a tutte le regate Louis Vuitton dei prossimi 12 mesi” dice Laurent Esquier, CEO della WSTA.
Team Origin è guidato dallo skipper Ben Ainslie, vincitore di tre medaglie d’oro olimpiche, la tattica è affidata a Iain Percy, vincitore di due medaglie d’oro olimpiche, mentre il team è guidato dal velista vincitore del giro del mondo Mike Sanderson. Il Team fornirà anche la sua barca GBR-75 per l’evento di Nizza.
“Guardando al futuro del programma del nostro sailing team, sapevamo di volere competere in eventi che coinvolgessero tutte le parti del nostro team, e non solo i velisti, per fare un’esperienza operativa pratica – ha detto il capo del team, Sir Keith Mills – Dopo aver partecipato alle Louis Vuitton Pacific Series all’inizio di quest’anno, abbiamo capito in fretta che il progetto delle regate WSTA di Louis Vuitton era perfettamente adatto al nostro team e che dovevamo esserci”.
Il secondo team annunciato oggi segna il ritorno alla vela di un’icona italiana, Azzurra dello Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS). Nel 1983 Azzurra è stata la prima sfida italiana a partecipare alla Coppa America. Il nuovo team Azzurra sarà guidato dal socio dello Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, Giovanni Maspero del team Joe Fly, lo skipper sarà Francesco Bruni, il tattico Tommaso Chieffi, mentre il team manager la pluricampionessa olimpica Alessandra Sensini.
“La concordanza dei progetti con lo Yacht Club Costa Smeralda e la fiducia riposta in noi dal Commodoro Bonadeo gratificano tutto il nostro gruppo sportivo per il lavoro svolto in questi anni. Grande è la responsabilità che ci viene affidata, ma sono certo che il valore del nostro sailing team non potrà che fornire la base per poter competere ai massimi livelli” ha detto Giovanni Maspero.
L’evento di Nizza, che si disputerà dal 7 al 22 novembre, si chiamerà Louis Vuitton Trophy – WSTA – Nice. L’evento è omologato dall’International Sailing Federation (ISAF), l’autorità mondiale della vela con sede in Inghilterra.
Dopo la fusione di Joe Fly con Azzurra, gli otto team che prenderanno parte al Louis Vuitton Trophy Nizza sono i seguenti:

Il Louis Vuitton Trophy di Nizza è promosso ed organizzato dai teams, attraverso la World Sailing Team Association (WSTA), da Louis Vuitton e dal Club Nautique de Nice (CNN) con il supporto della FFV (Federazione della vela francese).
Il team organizzatore è già al lavoro a Nizza, a stretto contatto con le autorità locali, per rendere l’evento un grande successo, sulla scia delle Louis Vuitton Pacific Series.
LOUIS VUITTON TROPHY, TWO MORE ENTRIES
[Louis Vuitton Trophy Press Release] Louis Vuitton and theWorld Sailing Team Association (WSTA) are delighted to announce the addition of two world-class sailing teams for the Louis Vuitton Trophy regatta to be held in Nice next month (7th to 22d November). This brings the regatta total to eight confirmed teams, which is the ideal number for end-of-summer expected weather conditions.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome Team Origin, the British team led by Sir Keith Mills, which becomes a preferential shareholder inWSTA and intends to compete at all of the Louis Vuitton regattas over the next 12 months” says Laurent Esquier, CEO WSTA.
Team Origin, skippered by three-times Olympic gold medallist Ben Ainslie with two-times Olympic gold medallist Iain Percy as tactician and managed by round the world winning yachtsman: Mike Sanderson, will also provide their training boat GBR-75 for the Nice event.
“When looking at our team’s future sailing programme we knew we wanted to compete in events that would give all parts of our team and not just the sailing team, further hands-on operational experience” said Sir Keith Mills, Team Principal.
“Having sailed in the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series earlier this year we quickly realised the concept of the WSTA’s Louis Vuitton regatta projects completely fit the bill for our team and so we knew we had to be there”.
The second new entry sees the return of an iconic Italian sailing brand, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda’s (YCCS) Azzurra. In 1983, Azzurra was Italy’s first-ever America’s Cup challenger. The new Azzurra team will be led by Yacht Club Costa Smeralda member Giovanni Maspero of Joe Fly, and on the water skippered by Francesco Bruni with Tommaso Chieffi as tactician whilst managed by multiple Olympic medallists Alessandra Sensini and others.
“Our common objectives and the faith placed in our team by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and Commodore Bonadeo is extremely rewarding for our entire sporting group. We feel an enormous responsibility but I am firmly convinced that our sailing team’s merit will provide excellent conditions to compete at the highest level” says Giovanni Maspero.
The event is sanctioned by the world authority of sailing based in England, the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) which has requested that we change the name from Louis Vuitton World Series – Nice to Louis Vuitton Trophy – WSTA – Nice.
The event in Nice, to be sailed over the dates 7th to 22d of November, is to be called the Louis Vuitton Trophy – WSTA – Nice.
Following the merger of Joe Fly with Azzurra, eight teams will compete for the Louis Vuitton Trophy Nice:

The Louis Vuitton Trophy in Nice is jointly promoted and organised by the teams, through the World Sailing Team Association (WSTA), Louis Vuitton and the Club Nautique de Nice (CNN) with the FFV support.
The organizing team is already in Nice, working closely with the city officials to make the event a great success in the wake of the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series.
