Portimao – Conclusa la trasferta coreana con il successo di Bjorn Hansen e con il sorpasso in vetta alla classifica generale di Francesco Bruni ai danni di Mathieu Richard, il World Match Racing Tour ritorna in Europa. Nel corso di questa settimana, infatti, gli assi dell’uno contro uno si daranno battaglia a Portimao.
Tra i protagonisti della Portugal Match Cup ci saranno alcuni dei migliori interpreti del match race. Oltre al Bruni Racing Team e al citato Richard, nelle acque lusitane saranno impegnati il quattro volte campione iridato, Peter Gilmour, il neo timoniere di Venezia Challenge, Torvar Mirsky, Damien Iehl, Ian Williams e Jesper Radich. A questi si uniranno skipper come Alvaro Marinho e Ruben Corbett, ammessi alla manifestazione grazie a una wild card.
L’evento, in programma tra il 22 e il 26, si disputerà a bordo degli SM40, imbarcazioni studiate appositamente per il match race.

WORLD MATCH RACING TOUR, HEADING TO PORTUGAL
[World Match Racing Tour Press Release] The ISAF World Match Racing Tour returns to European waters next week for the Portimão Portugal Match Cup where eight of the current top ten teams in the World Championship race will be in contention.
After three stages and three different winners, just 38 points separate current leader Francesco Bruni Bruni Racing Team and Ian Williams Team GAC Pindar who lies in tenth place.
A repeat of the epic 2010 Final between the two most recent Portugal Match Cup winners, Peter Gilmour Yanmar Racing and Torvar Mirsky The Wave Muscat, would add yet more spice to what is shaping up to be a closely fought Championship battle.
Racing will be staged in the Marina of Portimão when racing takes place from June 22-26 and the World Match Racing Tour spoke with Peter Gilmour and Portimão Portugal Match Cup President Justino de Sa Machado to get their thoughts ahead of the action next week.
