Route du Rhum, Vento di Sardegna ancora leader del gruppo Rhum

Route du Rhum – Oceano Atlantico – Lasciata a destra l’Ile D’Ouessant, la flotta della Route du Rhum guarda ora verso il Golfo di Biscaglia e si prepara ad affrontare il rinforzo del vento da nordovest annunciato dai bollettini. Ad indicare la via sono i grandi multiscafi della categoria Ultime, cui appartengono i vari Sodeb’o di Thomas Coville, attuale leader della regata grazie a una rotta che lo ha portato piuttosto al largo rispetto agli avversari diretti, Groupama 3 di Franck Cammas, Idec di Francis Joyon e Oman Air Majan di Sidney Gavignet.
Tra gli IMOCA 60, raggruppati lungo il margine esterno del Golfo di Biscaglia, a tirare il gruppo è Kito di Pavant. Lo skipper di Groupe Bel, localizzato qualche miglia più a sinistra del grosso della flotta, è seguito a meno di mezzo miglio da Roland Jourdain (Veolia Environnement) e dallo Sciacallo, al secolo Armel Le Cleac’h su Brit Air. Gli altri – tra questi Jean Pierre Dick, Michel Desjoyeaux e Vincent Riou – non sono certo troppo lontani e c’è da scommettere che, assieme ai Class 40, sarà proprio questa classe a regalare la emozioni più intense.
Tra i quarantaquattro Class 40, che appena entrati nel Golfo di Biscaglia hanno iniziato ad aprirsi a ventaglio, a comandare i giochi è Bernard Stamm su Cheminées Poujoulat. L’esperto skipper svizzero ha accumulato un margine di circa 6 miglia su Destination Dunquerke di Thomas Ruyant e di circa 9 su Mare.de di Jorg Riechers. Regata che si fa già in rimonta per Marco Nannini e Davide Consorte. I due italiani, pur avendo seguito rotte differenti, sono attardati di circa 25 miglia rispetto al battistrada.
Miglior inizio non poteva certo immaginare Andrea Mura che, al debutto come solitario, è sin dal via al comando della classe Rhum. Uscendo dalla Manica, lo skipper di Vento di Sardegna si è portato molto al largo e poi, seguendo una parabola perfetta, è tornato a mettere la prua verso sudovest. Un percorso che gli ha permesso di accumulare un ottimo margine di vantaggio su Pure le Rire Medicine di Luc Coquelin (+14.4 mn) e su Acapella di Charlie Capelle (+14.6 mn).

ROUTE DU RHUM, STAMM SETTINGS THE PACE
[Soure Route du Rhum] The current Class 40 leaders are an international trio: Swiss skipper Bernard Stamm is, second is a Sud-ist from the Languedoc, and a German is third. The weather pattern to date has fallen closely in line with the forecast, building from the NW after being a little light and unsteady through the first few hours of the race.
The top boats in this 44 strong Class 40 fleet have left Ushant and the point of Brittany behind now and moving out into the open Atlantic. Bernard Stamm looks solid and well established at the head of the fleet, moving well still in the 20-22 knots NW’ly flow and making a decent 13 knots, but with a lead of nearly six miles.
For this fleet too of course the same strategic choice lies ahead, but meantime the equation to balance of easier short term gains made by heading more to the south, or staying more to the north for a more long term gain. The three leaders seem to be on a fairly conservative course, playing the middle option just now. Round the world race winner Stamm is certainly one of the favourites in the class and is followed by Sam Sam Manuard Vector Plus ) and the German Jorg Riechers (Mare.de), all taking a similar course. But the different choices are clearly being made, double winner of the Figaro Solitaire Nicolas Troussel knows the Bay of Biscay well and is set up 23 miles to the south east of Cheminées Poujoulat, along with Christophe Coatnoan (Partouche) and YvanNoblet (Appart City).
Richard Tolkien as gained to 19th on ICAP ORCA with a northerly position, whilst Tanguy De Lamotte this morning reported that he has ripped a gennaker and has spent a lot of time hand steering because of autopilot problems, lying in 17th place.
Meantime Olivier Singeline (Gonser Group-Cambio) set off at around 2000hrs last night after fixing his small electrical problems, whilst Bulgarian Dimitar Topalev (White Swallow) has to stop into Roscoff to sort out a major spinnaker problem.
